Anssi Kasitonnin maailma kertoo Anssi Heinosesta – Ars Fennica -palkitusta taiteilijasta, joka tekee kaiken omalla tavallaan ja mieluiten omin käsin. Dokumentti seuraa kuinka Anssi rakentaa elämänsä suurinta näyttelyä Helsingin Taidehalliin, kuvaa ranskankielistä lyhytelokuvaa Oscar voitto mielessään ja kehittelee skeittilelua hongkongilaisen lelufirman kanssa. Anssi Kasitonnin maailma on lämminhenkinen ja humoristinen tarina intohimosta, luovuudesta – ja siitä, kuinka joskus kannattaa tehdä vähän väärinkin.

Ohjaajan sana
Anssi Kasitonnin hellittämätön positiivisuus on sekä aseista riisuvaa että tarttuvaa. Anssin omalaatuinen tapa tehdä taidetta, usein vaikeimman ja halvimman kautta, on syvästi inspiroivaa. Kaiken keskiössä on idea, olipa se kuinka absurdi tahansa, joka viedään aina maaliin asti. Anssi käyttää työskentelyssään aina nopeinta ja tehokkainta tekniikkaa – miksi nyhertää veistosta taltalla, kun sen voi tehdä moottorisahalla.
Lempidokumenttini In the Realms of the Unreal ja American Movie ilmentävät samaa henkeä, joka ohjaa myös tätä elokuvaa: tinkimätöntä tekemisen intohimoa. Dokumentin tärkein viesti onkin, että täydellisyyttä ei pidä tavoitella, sitä tulee jopa välttää.
Ohjaajan Bio
Sami Sänpäkkilä on kuvataiteilija, muusikko, elokuvantekijä ja on pyörittänyt Fonal Records levy-yhtiötä vuodesta 1995. Hänen taidetta on esitetty museoissa ja gallerioissa ympäri maailmaa New Yorkin MoMA:sta Tokion Louis Vuitton Galleriaan. Sänpäkkilä on kuvannut ja leikannut Jussi-ehdokas elokuvan Samurai Rauni Reposaarelainen ja ohjannut täyspitkän The Goodiepal Equation -dokumentin. Sänpäkkilän teoksia on sekä Kiasman että Tampereen taidemuseon kokoelmissa.

8000: AN ART ODYSSEY
8000: An Art Odyssey is a documentary about the Finnish Ars Fennica awarded artist Anssi “8000” Kasitonni. Anssi does everything his own way, and preferably with his own hands. The film follows Anssi as he prepares for the biggest exhibition of his life at Kunsthalle Helsinki, films a French language short film with dreams of an Oscar award and develops a skate toy with a company based in Hong Kong. It is a warm and humorous story about passion, creativity – and how sometimes, doing things the wrong way is the right way.

Directors statement
Anssi “8000” Heinonen exerts a relentless positivity that is both disarming and contagious. His unique way of making art, often using the most difficult and cheapest means, feels deeply inspiring. At the core of everything is an idea, no matter how absurd, that will be carried through to completion. In his work, Anssi seeks the fastest and most effective techniques. Why spend days chiseling a sculpture when you can use a chainsaw?
My favorite documentaries, In the Realms of the Unreal and American Movie, embody the same spirit that drives this film: a relentless passion for creation. At its heart, this documentary celebrates the sheer joy of making. The core message of the documentary is simple. Perfection should not be the goal, it should even be avoided.

Director bio
Sami Sänpäkkilä is an artist, musician, film-maker and the head of Fonal Records. Sami has made art films, documentaries and music videos that have been screened in various museums, art galleries and film festivals around the world from New York to Tokyo. The films and the music are experimental moodscapes that explore the themes of melancholy, pathos and hope. He is the cinematographer and editor of the Jussi-nominated feature film Samurai Rauni Reposaarelainen and director and cinematographer of the feature documentary The Goodiepal Equation.
