Tilta Mirage Variable ND Matte Box review is pretty much a perfect product concept and I had very high hopes for it. The modularity is amazing and the build quality is top notch all around. But the variable neutral density filter image quality is what matters the most so unfortunately that is a deal breaker for me personally.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K review – Still best in it’s class
The release of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K’s was highly anticipated. Blackmagic announced the camera in April 2018 and I got mine exactly a year later in April 2019. I still use it as my main camera in 2023 and I believe it’s still the best bang for you buck in it’s class! This […]
MasterClass review – Is it worth it?
Masterclass review – The Masterclass online courses are heavily advertised in Facebook and I’m betting there’s a lot of people subscribing to them. Last year when I saw that Werner Herzog, my long time hero in delinquent cinema, was making his own MasterClass I jumped at it and bought the course. Later I got the […]
Cine Meter II app and Luxi
If you are thinking of bying a light meter or a color meter here’s a solution to consider. Cine Meter II app for iPhone made by Adam Wilt costs around 25€ in iTunes app store. Luxi costs between 10-30€ depending on which version you buy.
Lanparte Follow focus and gear rings review
Follow focus is one of the best and most used accessories I have for my camera rig. It’s essential when you need to do a difficult rack focus on a complicated shoot. Normally a dedicated focus puller would do the focus pulling for you while you concentrate on composition. I’ve rarely had this luxury but it’s something I’d highly recommend. I do feel that it’s a really good thing to have a follow focus even when working alone.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera review
I bought the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera second hand just days after it was released. I have a feeling there will be plenty of them to go around. This is a very special piece of gear and many people will be struggling with the caveats. It records ProRes and raw, has 13 stops of dynamic range and is extremely small and light.
Metabones Speed Booster EF to E-Mount review
The Metabones Speed Booster seemed like a thing too good to be true. But once in a while I guess such things do happen! I’ve just recently purchased the Sony FS-700 camera so I immeadiately ordered the Speed Booster when I heard about it. What it does it converts the Super 35mm to Full Frame field of view and while doing this also adds one stop of light to the lens.
Cinelight Tungsten Fresnel lighting kit
I recently bought a Tungsten light set from Cinelight. A company in Romania that sells lot’s of different lighting equipment. I must say I was well pleased with the build quality. The lights are an obvious rip off of Arri lights, they look and feel exactly the same but cost about half as much.
SLR Magic m4/3 HyperPrime 12mm f1.6 lens
This is probably one of the fastest in its price range of wide-angle lenses you can get. It’s a 12mm (equals 24mm on full frame sensor) Micro Four Thirds lens at f1.6 and costs around 550 USD + vat. Although this 12mm is still a speciality lens I have been using it quite a lot already.
The Emigrants and The New Land film review
A friend of mine recommended these movies to me some time ago but as they are both 3 hours long I saved them up and just watched them during the holidays. Both directed by Jan Troell whom I had never heard of before. His done quite a few movies and documentaries that are all unkown […]
Glidetrack SD review
FedEx dropped off the Glidetrack SD a few days ago. Took less than a week from the moment I made the order online to arrive to Finland from UK, fast service! I bought it specially for a music video I’m shooting end of April where I wanted to have very slow moving shots.
The White Ribbon film review
Funny games has been on my most hated films list ever since I saw it. I’m not gonna go into it but I really disliked it at a very deep rooted level. Later I saw Pasolini’s Saló and I gotta say I liked that better but I wasn’t surprised to read a while ago that […]
