Kemialliset Ystävät Casio promo

I was really excited when Janderzen told me that Casio had comissioned Kemialliset Ystävät to do a promo video for their Trackformer XW-PD1 sampler. So many of my fellow musicians have used Casio keyboards to make their music. All my own albums have been recorded almost exclusively with them, an MT-100, SK-10 and SK-5. So needless to say, I was in, when Jan asked if I’d like to film it.

The setup was really simple. Jan’s request was to have “a box of light in the darkness”. The box is sort of a greenhouse built on the yard of Pyynikin Aikamatkat in Tampere. We lit the greenhouse with two 150W construction site lights placed on the roof which was a see through plastic roof. We had a 2K Arri coming from the side about 20 meter away. It was lit through a silk screen so it only gave a bit of light. This was shot with a Sony FS700 and an Odyssey 7Q+ recorder/monitor.

Directed and cinematography by Sami Sänpäkkilä. Gaffer Anna-Mari Nousiainen. Kemialliset Ystävät on the video: Janderzen with Tomi Leppänen, Mika Pettissalo, Petra Poutanen-Hurme and Tellus Choir.
